In parallel to his profession as a graphic designer, Juan Carlos Pérez Sánchez has always maintained a simultaneous artistic production, marked by photomontages and the observation of urban graphic expressions. Having left Buenos Aires in 1956 to arrive in postwar Barcelona at the age of 24, he changed his name (adopting that of his mother: América) and was a key exponent in the restructuring of Spanish graphic design. His works figure in the collection of MoMA New York, and he has created a good part of the most relevant graphic design of Barcelona, such as the logo of the 1992 Olympic Games and the visual identities of Vinçon and of the city taxis, and much more. His internationally recognized work, the subject of many exhibitions, is nearly aligned with art brut and has always been closely tied to his professional activities.
