Lauro Roberto is one of the most emblematic representatives of the Mauditos, a generation of artists who, in the 1990s, produced and exchanged independent publications (zines) by mail and had the “Maudito Fanzine” section of the magazine Animal as a printed point of contact. According to artist Fabio Zimbres, one of the editors of the magazine, “Lauro’s work emerged as a reaction to what he discovered in the zines, but his collaborations with other authors lent a new vigor to the scene: quick comics, crazy characters and new printing techniques, such as papercutprint, which he used in the Olix zines.” After this moment of excitement with the zines in Brazil, Lauro began to show his creations in the few venues for art in and around the industrial city of Volta Redonda (RJ), where he continues to live today. Some of the works of the Suite Voláctea series have been shown previously at the gallery I/_, in Buenos Aires, have had a page dedicated to them at the notable website lost.art.br, and have furthermore been shown in museums such as Santander Cultural, in Porto Alegre, and the Pavilhão das Culturas Brasileiras, in São Paulo, as part of the traveling show TRANSFER.
